The Cult

Now that the effects of The Sludge have been discovered, naturally a Gembound is bound to make a cult around it.

That Gembound? Shikkan. He views it as the secret to being the ultimate Gembound, a way of ascension. Those who have consumed the Sludge, been taken in its grip, are greater than even the Elders.

Located in The Gorge of Monoceros, the Cult stays well out of the way of others. Keeping their secrets close, the knowledge of the Sludge even closer, they trust no one. If everyone in the Caves could use The Sludge, then they would no longer be Special, no longer be Great.

Joining the Cult? Easy enough. You will be lead into a small depression filled with a handful of Lessers and made to kill them. Succeed, and you are a Member for life -- an Initiate.

There are several ways to earn a Rank--you automatically earn one after being in the Cult for two Cycles, chosen by your observed skills. If you catch the eye of a higher ranking member by your deeds, then you may be assigned one. Or you may petition them, asking for the rank you want.

To be allowed to consume The Sludge, the greatest honor in the Cult, you may petition to enter Hydra--if you complete a task (Modded) and come out alive, then you are allowed to consume it. As well, if you catch the eye of a higher ranking member, you may be allowed to skip the requirement of entering Hydra and will be allowed to consume The Sludge.

Shikkan offers new members:
Skills--established members in the cult are highly encouraged to teach others any skills they know, and members are encouraged to constantly be learning, to never stagnate, to constantly improve their skills.
Knowledge--the cult focuses on knowledge, and constantly attempts to learn whatever they can, even if it isn't about The Sludge. Their knowledge is offered as knowledge many in the Caves don't know, 'secret' knowledge that only the best of the best (read, the Cult) are able to learn.
Safety--those in the Cult are protected by the stronger members and, as part of their learning, taught to fight. They are kept fed and sheltered, so long as they pull their own weight. The Cult protects their own, for better or for worse.

Please note: Consumption of sludge is purely optional, Members are welcome to devote themselves to their duties to the Cult instead
