They slipped.

Flailing through the air, their hands and jaws and everything losing contact with those scales.

'No!'

Blue and green and blue and green and buffalo filled their vision, their wings beating vainly in an attempt to soften their landing but too weak to do so, one last stare at the fleeing dragon and--

"Uumph!"

The monster laid dazed for a moment, splayed across the grass in a tangle of parts, before suddenly springing back up just as neutrally as they always were. Rosy eyes ticked towards their prey, now too far out of reach for their battered body to aim for, as they reached for their measly parcel of skin. It suddenly struck the faerie how vulnerable they were to a revenge attack by Arquia and they scrambled back, bug legs running towards the old forest they came from in shame. They would get that skin someday.

The remaining strength she had left in her was enough to shake off the bee, to her great relief. She wasn't sure how much longer she could have lasted. Arquia paid no attention to Matthieu as the bee ran off, no longer interested in attacking them. She had sustained too many wounds to try and risk another fight.

She tried to stop fast enough to land on the ground, but her tattered rear wing made that hard. The landing was rough, as she went down in a steep diagonal, but it wasn't too hard of a landing at least. There was a bruise forming on her legs now. This was all just another reminder why she shouldn't fly. It always led to more harm than good.

With tired wings and a wounded body, Arquia trudged slowly back home.
