This was its first real fight since mutating in the black city. Maybe it just had to get used to fighting like this? Except it had two whole cycles to acclimate, and it was failing in all the same ways as before.

But now was not the time for that.

Charon's tail slammed into its legs, causing the top-heavy beast to quickly lose balance. It'd get back to it's feet with a huff, eyes narrowing. It'd then charge, turning it's spiky back towards Charon, essentially becoming a gigantic spiky bowling ball. It'd crash into Charon's side, nearly one ton of spikes and slime. That'd probably hurt.

Charon looked back just in time to see a big ball of spikes ready to crush whatever was nearby. Despite having tried to take the legs out from under his opponent, it seemed it wasn't enough to take them down and merely sent them stumbling instead, giving them momentum to push themselves towards him somehow.

But one thing they didn't take into account was that they weren't the only spiky one. With a tail tipped in what was essentially a razor sharp diamond axe, it would pack quite the punch if slammed right into Labradorite's oncoming body.

With not a moment to spare he whipped his body around and aimed his tail right into the mass of spikes, bracing for the pain that would follow. Slamming his tail into what was essentially a pincushion wasn't going to feel like rolling through dandelions, that was for sure.

It hadn't expected to suddenly go flying the other way, but that's exactly what happened. It felt something cut a gash open in its side as it went tumbling back, digging its claws into still partially flooded sand in order to keep itself from falling further.

It took a moment to recover from that mess of a (slightly successful) attack. Once it did, it set its sights on the dragon's tail- its main weapon, apparently. It dove for his tail, hoping to land a wound that'd make using the limb just a little more difficult. The resulting bite wasn't particularly deep, but hopefully it was enough to deter another leg-sweep or tail-bash.

Charon snarled and yanked his tail away from those teeth, the limb now aching and smarting from not just the spike wounds, but from the bite inflicted in the thickest part of its muscle. That would take a while to heal.

He found the water to be more of an obstacle than he'd initially thought. Where he'd managed to keep his tail out of the water to smash Labradorite with, now that it was out of commission he had to deal with the fact that running through water was very very hard. So when he lunged to try and grab Labradorite and start rolling much like a crocodile would, he missed, his mandibles snapping in empty air.

It watched Charon slip in the flood, missing an attack that otherwise CERTAINLY wouldn't have been a fun time. He lived on the beach, and yet was not used to water? He did look more accliated to snowy climates, with it's icy coloration, and mane of bristles.

Interesting.

Using the missed attack as an opening, it'd move in, trying to work Charon into a pin. It's front limbs wrapped around Charon, keeping him from biting it effectively. But the motion was clumsy, The Labradorite being unused to it in general.

Charon snarled and bucked, thrashing his body around and trying to shove his spikes and quills into the Labradorite, his snarls audible.

He roared and fell, his wings flapping aimlessly as he just tried to keep his head above water, hissing and spitting.

”GET OFF OF ME!”, he roared, nostrils flaring with every strained breath, ”GET OFF OF ME YOU BASTARD!”

This damned beast was going to drown him if they kept this up.

It struggled to hold onto Charon, with all the bucking and wing-flapping. Still, it managed. Quills scrapped against it's skin and Oil coating, but luckily none managed to truly pierce it's skin. But, it wasn't exactly sure what to do from here, except hold on tight.

At Charon's infuriated roars, it only had a comparatively calmer- albeit audibly strained and exhausted- reply: "You struck first."

Then, it had a realization. This creature obviously didn't have gills, and the water was still high enough to cover it's head, if it pressed him to the ground. So it'd attempt to do exactly that, forcing all it's weight towards the ground. It was successful, mostly, albeit all of Charon's thrashing certainly didn't make it easy, and it was most likely he'd escape from it's hold at this point.

Charon struggled against the other's strength, his head going under the water. He roared and inhaled, gasping and coughing, struggling harder as he began to panic. His tail thrashed, body wiggling in vain.

Suddenly his arrogance didn't seem so cool anymore.

He started to go still as his vision blackened, a strange sort of calm setting in as he drowned, water filling his lungs. He went limp under Labradorite and found himself floating, the life starting to drain from him, his chrysalis threatening to engulf him.

Charon thrashed, making it stumble slightly to keep it's balance among the thrashing limbs. It didn't yield, just holding on tighter and shoving the dragon's face deeper into the flood.

That is, until it realized that the icy wyrm has gone completely limp.

That isn't what it had meant to do. That isn't what it had meant to do at all. It didn't want this to happen again, even if this time hadn't started and ended with the crunch of bones. It began to back up, trying to drag Charon out of the water, or at least so his face wasn't submerged.

It was tired, from the fight, and the dragon was an impossibly heavy mass of scales and armored plating. Still, it dragged him a ways up the beach, propping his head on top of a rock so it wouldn't be submerged in water.

Then, it ran, hiding among the trees and brush where the beach turned to land. It didn't know why it didn't disappear into the jungle entirely. It didn't know why it remained there, watching. But it did.
