Yellow was the next color. This wouldn't require any digging, which Sprig was incredibly glad about. He paws ached from digging up the ochre. He dipped his paws into the river, washing them of the orange tinge that they held. Swirls of orange dissolved into the water, and it felt refreshing. He was tempted to stay like this for a while, lounging by the side of the river, and relax. But he could not. There were yellow berries to find.
Getting up, he padded back into the forest. Hopefully it wouldn't take too much effort to find the color he needed.

The yellow berries shone like gold among emerald leaves. He nearly missed it, as they seemed to blend in with the rays of sunlight filtering in through the tree tops. But no matter. The sparkle was seen from the corner of his eye, and the lion turned his gaze upon the berries that he had nearly missed. This made him wonder if he should walk slower in his search for materials, to ensure he doesn't pass by anything useful.
They were brought back to the sled once again, placed in a bowl, and crushed. These berries were a bit harder than the others ones. Unripe perhaps? They did not break as evenly when pressure was exerted, so that the end result was less refined than the other dyes had been. But it was still dye. Sprig didn't think it would be possible to make it any better than it was now anyways. This was as good as it got.

Next up was probably one of the hardest colors to find. Green blended in among the rest of the plants, making it incredibly hard to spot them. That also begged the question of whether leaves could be used to make green dye. Sprig pondered this question for a few moments then decided that they didn't hold enough pigment to be worth it. Though leaves were always in abundance, so if he were unable to find the berries he needed, leaves could be a suitable replacement.

Though this was supposed to be one of the harder colors to find, his eyes were able to pick out the green berries nestled within a bush. Perhaps it was the shape. Whereas leaves were rather angular and flat, berries were rounder. This was something that he had perhaps learned to spot with all this time spent hunting for them. It was not the color he was looking for, it was the contrast in shapes. Interesting. Could this be applied to anything else he wondered.
Anyway, the berries were brought back to be crushed. The colors flowed between his paws, staining yellow fur with a tinge of green. His claws were very helpful in times like these for cutting into the berries, breaking them apart to release the juice they held inside.

Sprig wondered if light blue berries could be found here. It was more similar to the berries found in Orion, reminding him of the mint he had collected from the cave. Though all those plants were gone now, so it had been a good idea to move the peppermint back to his garden in Eridanus. If only he had brought some of the other plants too.
But Pegasus had contained so many berries of other colors that it was bound to have light blue ones too. Right? But no matter how much he searched, it seemed he was unable to find one that had what he needed. He was really starting to regret right about now not taking some of those other plants from Orion when he could. That was a lesson learned.

Perhaps... there was another way to go about this. It relied a bit more on luck, in the sense that he wouldn't be wandering around aimlessly and would instead use his magic to achieve what he needed. But it also meant that there would have to be the right kind of seed laying dormant in the ground in the first place, which he wasn't sure if there really was.
He drew on the magic from magnesite centered on his forehead channeling it down to his paws, and out into the ground. Nothing happened for a few moments, then the smallest sprout emerged from the soil. It unfurled its first leaves, though its size was such that anyone unaware could easily miss that there was a plant growing there at all.

Now for the next step. It was much harder of course, but this was a spell he was used to casting, as he often had to for his many culinary experiments. This did not mean it got any less tiring however, but with practice, he had improved from being able to just barely get them to bud to bloom into full flower. He hoped it would work again this time. Though he had never tried it on bushes, he wasn't sure exactly how big he would be able to grow it. He knew on flowers and herbs at least it worked.
He felt the magic flow, rather easily too, and in only a few moments the sprout not only grew into a bush, it also bloomed and bore berries. Exactly what he needed. Sprig was amazed at what he had just done. Did he just do that? He stared at the plant in amazement. No way!

He gathered the berries, and even ate some of them, relishing their flavor that exploded in his mouth. Sprig almost didn't want to crush them into dye. They tasted so good they should be used for cooking, not dye! But he could always grow one in Eridanus. He was here to make dye, not food. He gathered the berries that looked a bit mushier and got to work on crushing them. Mushy berries weren't good to eat anyways, or at least didn't meet his standards for what he would use in his food.

Apparently mushy berries made for very good dye, as they crushed easily under his paws. The color was beautiful, reminding him of clear water, or some brighter gemstones he had seen. Mimosa would be very happy with these he was sure.

Sprig was getting incredibly excited with how good these dyes were turning out. Perhaps he could even get to dying food soon enough! (Was this the start of inventing food coloring!?) Anyway, he couldn't be celebrating too soon. He still had more to make! And now that he knew he could simply grow these berries, there was much less pressure to find them in the forest. After all, it wasn't bad to grow them in any sense. It added to the greenery of the area. But it did require a lot of energy, and although he had been successful with the light blue variety, he preferred to look for them first so as to not get tired out before finishing.

The blue berries came with some effort, but he eventually sniffed them out and they revealed themselves to him. Dangling from a tree. There was obvious confusion at this. He had thought berries were really only in bushes, not trees! But oh well he would not question it. That did mean he would have to find a way to pick them however. They were quite out of reach. Perhaps... he could try to get the tree to move?
This was a spell he had never tried before, but this too came naturally. A branch heavy with berries bent down to meet him, and he picked what he needed before allowing it to spring back up. Wow! He had no idea he had this much control over his magic. It was almost scary.
