Arquia pushed her way through the dense foliage of the fern trench. To any larger animal, it would have an easy task, but she was no large animal, so she had to tackle her way through. Eventually reaching a small clearing, she let out a small huff. She had been searching for a safe place to rest for a while, but it was hard to do that when every place had a potential danger.

So now, she had come up with a different solution. Instead of hiding from the things around her, she would become the things around her. Namely, leaves. It wasn't that she wasn't already well camouflaged already, with her green scales and leaf like wings. Even her horns looked like sticks! But she felt that wasn't enough, so she had the idea of making a sort of cloak.

The first thing she needed was a leaf, large enough that it would be able to cover her back. It should be easy enough to find, considering how small she was.

After some hopping around, she found a fairly large leaf that looked like it had some potential. It had a thin enough stem that she could fit her jaws around too, and she got to work gnawing away at it. Although it was thin, it had tough and coarse fibers, which would be good for tying to more leaves, but at the moment it was a difficulty.

Although her teeth were sharp, the leaf's fibers were stronger, and the stem refused to break. With a sore jaw, Arquia let go and spat out leaf juice onto the ground. This was harder than she thought it would be, but she wasn't giving up now. Her teeth marks had already made indents into the stem, and she was sure that going just a bit more would break it completely.

The stem still refusing to break, Arquia was forced to admit defeat. Over a stupid stem! Luckily there was another decent looking leaf nearby, coming from the same clump of ferns as the first. She walked over and tried sinking her teeth into the stem. Hopefully this time it would work. The small bits of fibers were still stuck in between her teeth from the other one, and it didn't feel very good.

Her hard work paying off, she could feel a cracking sound as the fibers started to break, and she ripped off the leaf. It wasn't a perfect rip, with the stem being in a jagged line, but at least it worked. Now... just about eleven more to go. She planned on overlapping them like scales over each other, so they provided good protection from the rain and other things. It would be much more sturdy than just one leaf too.

And so, Arquia went back and forth across the leaf filled trench, breaking stems until she had enough leaves to turn into the cape part of her cloak. Making sure they were all facing the same direction, she overlapped them and tied all their stems together. The remaining longer stems were tied around her neck, and now she had the first part!

Taking it off, she looked around for smaller, more medium sized leaves. Those would be for the hood. This time, she overlapped the leaves, but bent them to fit her head. She poked two holes in it too, for her horns to go through. Arquia attached the stems of those leaves to the stems of her cape, then tied the longer stems around her neck. Done!

Now that she had put it on, she did not want to take it off. It was quite comfortable too, and she would add to it as she grew to maintain it. But for now, she felt safe. Jumping into the clump of ferns and making sure the cloak covered her body, she fell asleep.

"Exit Arquia to sleep"
