Mayfal was ready! They listened closely to Comet. They listened to her heartbeat, her footfall, her breath. They listened to the rustling of grass around Comet. They listened and anticipated. All of these sounds were coming closer, and fast. But not too fast for Mayfal to miss, and not silently at all. Mayfal leaped away from the attack. Now, Comet should be parallel to Mayfal's side. This could work for a counter. It seemed that she had been aiming for somewhere on Mayfal's back, so they would try to lunge and aim for the same area.
@Comet
Their aim must have been off, because all they caught was air. It was no matter to Mayfal, though. They would try again! But, there wasn't as much noise now. Comet seemed distant. That wasn't right, she should be closer. She must have caught on. They'd have to try a different method.
Mayfal tried inhaling more deeply, feigning exhaustion. They were actually trying to smell out Comet. They knew it well by now, having pretty much tasted the fur on her tail. Mayfal moved their head in a sweeping motion, taking time to smell where Comet's scent was most intense.
They found it, the intenseness of Comet. She wasn't as distant as she sounded so they'd have to take that into account. They decided to go with an admittedly sloppy tactic and just lunge for anything. If they could sink their teeth in (not really IN, of course, but maybe a graze), that would be at least something.
Mayfal leapt yet again.
@Comet
Mayfal's plan had worked! The warmth of Comet's skin was present under Mayfal's teeth for just a moment. But leaping gave her the chance to dodge. Perhaps they needed to be more direct this time. They could accurately estimate where Comet was standing using smell and sound. Once they found a direction, they got into position.
It looked like Mayfal was getting ready to pounce again, but this was merely a diversion. Once they were sure of their trajectory and power, they began to run straight towards Comet. At least, where they thought Comet was. They ran straight ahead with their head ready for impact.
@Comet
Mayfal heard the rustling of grass and displacement of air and stopped just before running into a rather large root.
Comet had jumped. Jumped somewhere...behind! The footfall was explicit. Mayfal whipped around to face their (pretend) foe. Without much thought, they rushed Comet again.
@Comet
As Mayfal was too focused on making impact to hear the shifting of Comet's paw. The speed lead to a very long flight and hard crash after they made impact with Comet's forepaw.
The wind was knocked out of Mayfal, but if this was a real fight this wouldn't be the opportunity to give up. They had to get back on their feet. They had to stand. They tried to turn back over and support their weight again.
