The attack had turned into a chase. Comet was...running away? But hunting had finished already.
Whether the fight was still going or not, it would still probably be best to follow her. And maybe learning to run around a place like this would be a good idea, too.
Mayfal set off, led by the sound of Comet's footfall.
@Comet
Mayfal heard a splash. Comet's scent had disappeared. This could only mean that they had been lead to a pool of water deep enough to hide Comet. Mayfal would be completely useless underwater. Their senses would be drowned out and they would be at their most vulnerable.
They tried putting their paws on the water to see if heat would be of any use. It wouldn't be. Mayfal couldn't possibly evaporate this much water.
They sat down. Comet had to emerge at some point. Until then, Mayfal could wait. They kept their ears pricked and their nose active. They still had power on land as long as they stayed alert.
But there was so much sound! And the smells were all blending together! Their ears were flipping back and forth and their head lifted to try and pinpoint the various scents.
They had stopped paying attention to the water entirely.
@Comet
NOOOOO! How could this have happened! Why didn't they stay alert? Damn this BLINDNESS!
Had this been real, with
perilous stakes, they would be dead. Dead, dead, dead! If they couldn't fight, they would constantly live in danger. They had to keep fighting!
The sopping wet Comet was on top of them. Not an ideal situation but Mayfal could feel every move now. They just needed a distraction to let them get free. It probably wasn't a great idea for simple sparring, but in the heat of the moment, they went for the face.
@Comet
It was probably best that Mayfal missed. And they were feeling pretty tired. Maybe some rest wouldn't be so bad. There wasn't any real danger yet as far as they could tell.
"Yeah, okay." They didn't want to sound so reluctant, but they were a little disappointed at their own performance.
There would always be next time. They would spar again. That fact made Mayfal a little happier. They got up and faced the direction of Comet's voice.
@Comet
Comet's warm tail brushed across their face once again. Even when it was wet, it had become comforting.
Mayfal had a general idea of where Comet was headed, so it would be easier to follow the path this time around. There were still some larger rocks and roots, though, and by the time they arrived at the little home their paws were rather sore. They decided to retreat to the water that surrounded the place. It seemed to have healing properties. Or at least it just had a soothing effect.
"Thank you, again," they were in debt to this creature now. They had to be respectful. "And I'm sorry for trying to scratch you."
