[OLYMPICS V] Obstacle Course! - Origin Cave - Jul 07 2025

Origin's Fifth Olympics
Obstacle Course

Welcome to the Other portion of the Olympics! Gembounds are racing their way through the varied, precarious terrain of Monoceros, tasked to capture a flag from a cave against the far wall and deliver it back! Thanks to Flower, the course is marked by greenery and flowers so its not hard to stay on track!

Rules
  1. No cheating! Magic, Physical Combat, and Other directed at opponents are grounds for disqualification. You also may not fly over any part of the course.

  2. Magic also may not be used to benefit yourself or others. Only Other rolls are allowed.

  3. Characters that are incapable of reasonably completing the course may participate, but cannot place.

  4. Barely successful rolls are required to advance through each section of the course. There will be five sections in total, but as many rounds as are required for everyone to complete the course.

  5. Winners are decided based on who crosses the finish line first. If there is a tie - characters reaching the end in the same round - the highest cumulative score wins that place.

  6. Once everyone has posted, or three days have passed since the beginning of the round, a short GM post will herald the next phase of the obstacle course.

  7. If you fall behind a round, you may double post to catch up. However, falling behind more then one round will cause the character to forfeit.

  8. As with the other Olympic events, spectators are allowed! There is no set posting order for the spectators.

Participants
Nebula
Eira
Triage
Richter
Titivilus
Audland
Bauxite
Coilean
Surgis
Nidhogg
Chromite T-One
Conleth
Huntsman

The Course

1. The Gorge! Testing your speed and agility, this first section of the obstacle course is a twisting path through the carved trenches across the floor of Monoceros. Thanks to Miriam, there are a number of hurdles and obstacles as well to climb/jump over on your way through the gorges.

2. Face the Twister! Yeah, you heard that right - try not to get picked up by the fierce winds here as you race across the flat ground in the heart of the cave and up the winding paths. This is a test of your endurance - can you push through the odds?

3. Parkour! A series of jumps up and over the Platforms on the way to your destination will test your acrobatics - are you confident and quick enough to get over these platforms before anyone else? Scion will be on standby to catch anyone that falls.

4. ...Tectus? You arrive at the cave where the flags you must acquire are stashed, but standing before you is the hulking Overseer Valkhound, Tectus, clearly intent on being your next obstacle. Use your wits to find a way around her!

5. Sprint to the finish! An easier path down from the Platforms ends in a relatively open, safe stretch of land. A last sprint to deliver your flag back to the start!

Any setup that hasn't yet been completed can still be turned in for the later half of the obstacle course - please let me know ASAP what obstacles your characters have put in place!

RE: [OLYMPICS V] Obstacle Course! - Scion - Jul 07 2025

Scion remembered the Olympics. It had been a long time since the last had taken place, many years probably. It wasn't exactly enthused to join at this point in its life, especially when it felt it had nothing to prove to another Overseer that it didn't know, but it supposed...it might look good to represent the Chaos Forge's interests in some way, right? It was, after all, high ranking now. Better act like it.

So, it had agreed to oversee this part of the race. Tectus was busy being part of it, leaving a nice big spot open for someone that could help out otherwise. So it did, standing at the entrance to the cave, where the race would start. "Okay," it cleared its throat as the contestants began to gather. "You see the path?" It pointed with one of its tails. "You follow it. Don't attack each other. Don't use magic. Don't fly or cheat - I'll be watching! And if any of you fall over the Platforms, I'll catch you. Just...try not to. Some of you are big." Its eyes ranged over the gathered gembound before stepping aside.

"Okay, first part is through the gorge here. Get yourselves ready." It gave them a minute or two to situate themselves and prepare for the race, any stretching or chatting they wanted to do, before calling out again. "Alright! It's go time! On your marks, get set, GO!"

It would watch them take off on the first part of the course and fly overhead (away from the Twister), keeping a close eye on the participants for any foul play.

RE: [OLYMPICS V] Obstacle Course! - Nebula - Jul 07 2025

He lowered himself to the ground, tense and ready, excited and on edge. He didn't really plan on winning, after all this was just something fun for him to do, but hey, at least it could keep his attention. He could do this, at least he thought he could. There were parts that were a bit easier than most, he was excited for the gorge and the parkour. The crux of the whole event was Tectus to him though, he had no clue how to get past them, but hey, he'd figure it out when the time came.

For now, he waited until the time started, until they were set off to start the event and rushed forward, holding his breath as he jumped over the obstacles swiftly, careful not to fall or get caught on any of the things in his way. He moved swiftly, using his slim body to move around the sharp turns and small areas, his heart racing and his tongue lolling to the side in excitement.

RE: [OLYMPICS V] Obstacle Course! - Chromite T-One - Jul 07 2025

Chromite stood frozen and completely tense, its child's body thrilled through with excitement. It was READY! It would succeed! Probably! For Overseer Momtus!

When the "GO" was called, it shot off, skittering with scythes tucked up well out of the way. It wound neatly around boulders, leaping small crevices in the rock, skittering over various hurdles.

It took it a solid thirty seconds to realize it'd already gone off-course, and was alone, out running away into Monoceros. With a chitter of despair, it turned, scrambling (in a small cloud of dust) to get back on track.

RE: [OLYMPICS V] Obstacle Course! - Nidhogg - Jul 07 2025

Nidhogg was gonna kick this thing's ass. He didn't know what it was, exactly, but he knew he could get stuff for it, so he was here to win. He too had stood tensed at the starting 'line,' listening to his fellow Chaos Forge member announce. And when it was go time, he scrambled forward, tongue flicking, eager savagery gleaming in all six eyes.

His noodly athleticism was on full display as he ran: curved leaps over hurdles, graceful squiggling through narrow gaps, and bounds that barely broke his stride as he covered the cracks in the way.

Nidhogg's eyes were on the prize.

He just wasn't entirely sure what the prize was. That didn't mean he didn't want it.

RE: [OLYMPICS V] Obstacle Course! - Bauxite-T-One - Jul 07 2025

The Bauxite was here. Of course he was there. Why wouldn't he be? The prime specimen of the Overseer of Orion's spawn. He was worthy. He wouldn't even have to try.

He approached normally, as any average quadruped would. His bright eyes swept along his rivals - he repeated the rules in his head like a mantra. No sabotaging. No sabotaging. No sabotaging. Even if he really, really wanted to.

We are collectively ignoring the presence of the Triage. We don't need to re-open that rotten can of worms.

GO! The Bauxite exploded into flailing, spider-like motion, claws scraping the dry dirt for any and all purchase. It forged ahead with horrific grace, leaping to and fro as if the only tangible bones in its body were the ones that could carry it up and forward.

RE: [OLYMPICS V] Obstacle Course! - Coilean - Jul 07 2025

Technically, Coilean was competing for two. His father, for whatever nonsense reason, was barred from competing in the Olympics. Only he and Horizon were eligible, and boy, would it be nice to bring home a win for Cyneweard.

But the wind was howling like nothing he'd ever heard before, and everyone else was so big and grown-up. He felt like a puppy lost in a storm, and like said storm could scoop him up and whisk him away if he broke focus for only a second. It was all quite overwhelming.

But he'd try his best. It's all he could do.

May the best racer win! Because whoever did, they'd deserve it. The good are rewarded in the end, always.

On the mark he sprinted forward, blades tucked close to his sides. Coilean didn't want to hurt anybody, even on accident. Despite his youth and inexperience, he leapt from hurdle to hurdle, managing to just barely reach the flat plains ahead.

RE: [OLYMPICS V] Obstacle Course! - Surgis - Jul 08 2025

There were, once again, many people. It didn't intimidate Surgis; no, it stuck in her, some need to win, even if she wasn't too used to this. Maybe she was better at running away, but this was just... running away with direction. She could do that.

She was good enough to not charge ahead. She was good to not cheat, because... well, okay, she wanted to cheat but she didn't so that deserved a reward too. Would she get more coins? Like anybody would find the ones she hid.

Scion's call broke her out of her thought. On Go! she shot forward like a bullet, pulling ahead and surging through obstacles, nearly flying over the jumps with her tail flying behind her.

"HA! Losers!"

RE: [OLYMPICS V] Obstacle Course! - Triage - Jul 08 2025

They showed up arguing. All three of them had radically different ideas of how they would present themselves at the olympics - Ishani had wanted to do the magicka show. "It seems the least dangerous," she explained. "And we have much to show off." Gore, of course, had wanted to wrestle. "I WILL BITE THEM ALL! We are BIG AND STRONG. We would WIN!!" And Buckley, in the end, had shut them both down. "Our magic isn't that impressive yet. And its subtle. Also, aren't we not supposed to kill or hurt people? It would be best to do the obstacle course. It doesn't seem too dangerous - they have people on standby!" He didn't mention the fact that they were, by nature, extremely clumsy, but an obstacle course sounded like fun!

Begrudgingly, the other two agreed. And they trotted in with Gore pouting from how "boring" this was going to be, and Ishani immediately eyeing the competition. She hissed suddenly, catching Buckley's attention. "That...thing is here." She didn't need to explain further. Buckley's heart dropped to his stomach. "M-maybe...maybe we should leave?"

But Gore was not going to take that. A stomp of a hoof and it, too, hissed in Buckley's ear. "No. YOU insisted on doing this stupid race! We're doing something whether you like it or not! Get over it and don't look its way!" Buckley swallowed and nodded, very obviously avoiding looking at the Bauxite in any way.

As soon as the race was getting ready to go, the three gathered themselves and lined up along the others. Gore, despite its pouting, looked like it was beginning to grow excited despite itself. A hoof pawed the ground behind them as they readied to go. All three fell into focus - they would direct this mess of a body to victory!

And then they were off, Gore and Buckley putting all their brainpower to use not only running together at a good pace, but weaving through the gorge with Ishani acting as their rudder. They tripped over a few of the hurdles, but they generally kept pace with all of the others. They'd certainly come quite far from struggling to so much as take a few steps.

"Buckley is speaking!" "GORE IS SPEAKING!!!" "Ishani is speaking..."

RE: [OLYMPICS V] Obstacle Course! - Eira - Jul 08 2025

She took a deep breath and hunkered down, preparing herself and slowly tensing her body as she readied herself. Okay, she could do this, just focus and let all the other sounds be nothing more than a backdrop to the race itself.

Go! She shot off like a bullet, doing her best to keep up with the rest of the people, going slow and steady rather than rushing straight to the front. This wasn't just a race but it was also an agility course. She knew that if she rushed too hard, she could likely trip on an obstacle and fuck herself up.

So for now, she kept herself in the slight back, careful not to fall or bump into anything.
