Hugin
Liars see their own kind everywhere.

Hugin drew his sibling closer && huddled down beside them, slouching against Munin's side to keep some warmth between them - the room itself was warm enough, but there was a special comfort ( at least for Hugin ) in the warmth he shared with his other part.
A reminder that they were together.

"A good idea." Hugin mused in response to Munin's question, lifting his gaze to observe the land they would be aiming for after their break. It wasn't too far away, but it was a little more distance to cross than what they had already left behind, which meant that Munin ( && Hugin ) would need all the strength they could gather.

"I wonder what we will find there, how large the land is && what lies beyond the darkness." He said, pointing his beak towards the tunnel bathed in shadows, opening like a large maw from the platform of land they were traveling to.

"Are there others? Like us, Munin? Or different?" Thoughts voiced aloud as Hugin starred into the abyss that was the maw of the beast.
The abyss starred right back.
Darkness into darkness, ebony against onyx, no light lost between them.

Hugin had to physically shake his head to get rid of the haunting draw the darkness had on him. He resisted the urge to push forward && cross the distance himself to wander the dark halls.

"The wise speak only of what they know."

Munin
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.
The raven nodded once, more like a quick dip of their head than an actual guesture however - allowing his twin to slouch against them. He didn't quite mind it: he dare call it pleasant. They listened quietly to Hugin for a moment, thoughtfully staring into the dark that the land beyond had to offer.

"I don't know," Munin eventually admitted. He knew what they were, he and his brother - they were one in the same, creatures of beaks and talons and feathers as black as night, but Hugin did indeed bring up a good point.

If the things beyond the water were different, how different would they be? Privately, Munin thought of beasts made of teeth and ragged hair; of things that were long and boney, slinking in the shadows unseen. It sent shivers down the raven's spine but he didn't dare mention it to Hugin, least he share the same dread Munin felt bubbling up in their chest.

His attention was caught away as the larger bird shook their head and he was left peering at him for a moment or so. "Maybe there is," he said. "But we're better than them."

This, Munin was positive of.

"The wise speak only of what they know."

Hugin
Liars see their own kind everywhere.

Hugin could only full-heartedly agree to his siblings' assessment of the situation. Whether or not they would meet others ( && whether or not there even were others ), the two of them would definitely be the best of them.
In every sense of the word, of course.

Clothed in black, yet graced with an intellect brighter than any artificial lights they would encounter later on in their lives, Hugin was sure that there could be none who would top them.
Especially not when they were together, because together, they were at their strongest - he knew that, he just did.

But that was something they could dwell on later, once they, perhaps, encountered someone else. Hugin was blind to his sibling's fears of imaginary beasts && instead focused on the hollow feeling in his stomach.
Hunger.
His mind instantly conjured images of spilled blood && warm meat, making Hugin's stomach churn in appetite.

Nearby, his dark eyes caught glimpses of dark shadows beneath the water which he'd previously ignored.
Prey.
Fish? That was the word his mind threw at him, at least.
"Are you hungry, Munin?" The raven asked, his ebony eyes fixed on the form of an average-sized fish, a trout, maybe, or the cave's equivalent of one.

Roll Attempt: Other - Catch the Fish

Hugin lunged at the fish before Munin could even reply ( or maybe he just didn't hear them? ), catching the fish by a fin && pulling it onto the land. The fish flailed around, but in Hugin's grasp, the creature eventually stopped its attempts to flee.

Proudly sitting back, Hugin offered the first share to Munin. He felt heavily responsible for his sibling, although they should be able to provide for themselves as much as Hugin could for himself. To Hugin, though, it made no matter. He would prove for Munin.

"The wise speak only of what they know."

Munin
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.
Munin had gone back to thoughts of what could linger in the cave; each monster bigger and more frightening than the last. A thing made of blunt teeth and bare skin with abnormally long limbs in which could resemble their own in another life time, a thing with great leathery wings and a hollow face but the soon two sounds caught him out of his thoughts.

The first was the low growl of his sibling's gut which Munin only barely picked up; the second was the voice that the gut happened to be attached to. They considered the words of Hugin for a mere few seconds. "Hungry," he repeated softly before the other raven lunged forth, half-knocking Munin of his slouched position.

The raven clambered to his talons, but by the time he had gotten fully upright there was something wet and covered in slime on the ground between them, quickly falling limp. Munin's eyes were wide; not at the horror of watching a fish slowly suffocate, or the fact that Hugin was expecting them to eat it, but rather in awe that Hugin had managed to catch such a thing.

"Well done," Munin stammered as he sauntered forward, beak half-instinctively beginning to tear scale from flesh and flesh from bone, craning his neck backwards to swallow down chunks of dripping wet meat down his throat.

After a few swallows Munin didn't feel quite as satisfied as he could have, but he was sure to save some for Hugin. It was only fair after all - given that he had been the one to catch it, but as the raven approached the water's edge he felt the need to catch one, too.

Instead of diving right into the water however, he decided to get the advice of Hugin first. "How did you manage that?"

"The wise speak only of what they know."

Deep bellow, in the darkness of the churning ocean waves, something had begun to stir. There were creatures-- it could hear them, muffled through the thick walls of water... It could feel them, above. Where the stars lay, where there was no longer water.

Slowly the monster of the depths rose, remembering its calling. It was here to guard, to protect. The strange land-creatures had come into its water, and it swam towards their motion, feeling their taint infect its waters. This was wrong; they did not belong here. Yet, before it could reach them, they had found land once more, and were once again, out of grasp.

One of the creatures above had taken something of the ocean, stolen the food that kept the creatures who dwelled among the great sea beast alive. There was, at first, a great anger that swelled up in the monster, and it reached out its long, trailing fingertips towards the surface, struggling to find a voice.

" Ý͡ỚU̶̷̕ ̡̢͡T͞RE͟͠S̷҉P̛A̡S̛S.̡͢.̵̧.̵̧ "

The sound was a deep, low grumble, the sound of thousands of voices hushed and rumbling on to the land like the waves themselves.
̀
" "̀͞҉Y̸O͏U ͡͏T̴A̵͞K̡͟E̡.̨̀.̨.̷҉ "

The beast came closer to the surface, its glittering, black body like the midnight sky itself, trapped under the current. Though it had no eyes, it watched the shoreline with an anger and hunger that could be felt in the ripples of the ocean.

" ͏̴͘͟͠ỲǪÚ͠ ̴͘S̴͜TE̶A̶L͢͡.͜.̴̨.̶͜͏̷ "

Long, spindly tentacle-like fingers reached forward, brushing the submerged sand, daring not to breach but threatening, feeling the land from only feet away where the creatures walked.

" ͏̴͘͟͠͡AN҉͜S̕W̡E̵͟R͏ ̶M̶̡̕E̢͘ ! "

Hugin
Liars see their own kind everywhere.

Watching Munin take his hare of the prey made Hugin's chest swell in pride. Yes, he had been able to take care of his sibling && they even seemed to look up to him for it.
The raven would gladly share his knowledge with his other part.

"See your prey, follow it with your eyes." He said, watching the rippling waters around them for a moment. "Anticipate its next move." Hugin leaned down to rip some meat from the fish's corps && devour it before continuing his teachings.
"And jump in before it can complete that turn. Grasp it firmly and without remorse. Then the prey will be yours." Hugin did not question how he came to that knowledge, but the hunting simply in his veins. He was born to it.

The rippling of the water intensified gradually, immediately drawing Hugin's interest. Suddenly, the darkness of the water around him seemed more of a looming threat than the abyss-like onyx maw of the beast at the end of the room.

A voice, full && thunderous echoed around them, coming from every corner of the room at the same time, yet its source lying unmistakably in the water.
Hugin turned && pushed his brother behind him, trying to catch sight of the monster calling them.

"I am Hugin and my sibling is Munin." The larger of the two ravens answered, choosing a short reply over a possibly smart-assed comment.
Keeping Munin beneath a protective wing, the impulsive raven watched the thin fingers clawing at the land nearby, grasping emptily for them.

A warning, posed clear as day, yet impossible for Hugin && to cooperate with, since they were very much lost on their island && would have to cross the sea once more to find their way to the lands beyond.

"We woke, so we explored. We hungered, so we ate." Hugin said matter-of-factly, as if that alone excused their behavior. The Raven of Thought was much too grounded && simplistic to believe in a higher being, otherwise he might have treated the larger beast, shimmering like stars beneath the water with another sort of respect.
A deification, perhaps, but Hugin did not believe in deities.

"Stay close, Munin. We must not move too close to the shore, lest to being catches us." The raven whispered to his sibling, the rare trace of caution audible in his voice.

"The wise speak only of what they know."

Munin
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.
Munin edged closer towards the water, sharp eyes glancing over a looming shadow under the surface. He listened to Hugin's words and the brief sound of flesh tearing and the other raven swallowing before he continued to speak.

The shadow in the water was somehow different to the thing Hugin had pulled out from the depths moments ago: it didn't seem to be minding it's own business nor did it seem particularly intent with moving away. Slowly, Munin began to back off - seconds before the water rippled and a new voice was heard.

A squawk of discomfort, like nails on chalkboard, left the raven's throat as their brother pushed them out the way and moved in front of them. Half-cautiously, he moved towards the left side of Hugin, eyeing the spindly, wet fingers that clawed at the shore. "I am Munin," he confirmed.

He eyed Hugin thoughtfully for a moment, sensing their deification towards the beast that lay below the surface. His beak clacked ever so slightly as he turned his head once more, peering at the sea monster. It was different from himself and his other part - for one, it actually seemed to want to stay in the water.

"Who are you? What are you?" he asked in a soft-spoken voice, damp feathers ruffling gently.

"We woke," he then said - half-explaining after his sibling. "We are not creatures such as yourself, we seek to leave. We do not wish to steal or trespass, beast."

"The wise speak only of what they know."

The twisting shadows under the water listened to the muffled answers through the waves, its rage festering and boiling until the creatures asked who and what it was. The monster raised its fanning wings of fingers, breaching the surface for only a moment, showing its translucence and almost sluggish substance. As it did, the creature heard the quiet ocean in its thoughts, answering and giving it the words.

t͡ h̛ e ̢ ̛w̷ a ̶v̢ ̵e̸ ͠s ͘ ̷c͞ ͢r̛ ̡a ̶s̛ h ̶ţ h҉ ̴e͞ ̡ş ̕h̵ ̢o̷ r e҉ ̷ ̛l̢ ̴i͞ n e ̀s̸ , b̸ r ͜e͞ a ̸k̵ ͞i n ͢g ̀ à n d͢ r e̴ b ̨u i l ́d̷ i ̧n͝ ͞g̶ ͘, ̕e ̨n͡ d ͘l͞ ̵e s ҉s ̀ l ̡i͘ ͢f̕ ̕e a ̀n̕ ̶d͞ d ̴e a ̧t h҉ ̡, ͟ ̸p r ͝o̸ ͜t ̧e ̢c̨ ̕t̴ a̧ ̵n̢ ͜d r̵ e͝ ̷i ͜g n҉ ҉, l͟ ̶e ̷t ̶ n o͠ ͠t h͞ í ̡n ͡ģ ͘ ̸c l͘ a̛ ̛i ̵m͟ ̢ ̢i̷ ̷t͟ t ͟h e̛ ̀i r̛ s̷ ͟

And the great sea creature answered it its voice:

" ͏̴͘͟͠T҉͡H͜E̷͘ ̶̀OŔ͡A͝R͜IA҉N̛̕, I̸̵MP҉҉̀L̢̧̧À̡͏C̢͜A͜͠B̀͝L̨͢E̴͜ ͘͟͝GÚ͞AŔD̛͝Į̸A̶͏͞N ́͝O̴̕F̡ ̸̛͘Ţ͟H͏͝I̡S̸͡ ̴W͜͠ỜR̨͞L̶̛D͜͞. "

There was a pause, a soft, drumming and deep hum, as though the creature was considering something.

" ͏̴͘͟͠YO͝҉̧Ư̢҉ ̀̕AR͏E̷͡ ҉OF́ ̵̀T͠͡H̷̷͜E̶ ́͏O̶̧͠T̕H͜Ę͡R̡̀ ̴W̸͠O̧҉R̴L̨̡D.̶́.̵́͞.̵ Y̵̨̧O̢U̵̧͘... ̶͘

"

With that question, its anger seemed to waiver. Slowly, the Orarian pulled away from the shoreline, though it stayed close to the surface, attempting to sense the creatures on the land through it's magic, for it was blind. It did not know much of the world above, only that the creatures trespassed unfairly all too often, and that it was one of the few defenses this world had from the outsiders.

Liars see their own kind everywhere.

Hugin resisted the urge to pull Munin closer && instead just watched the glimmering shadow beneath the murky waters closely, doing his best to foresee any sudden moves of the creature.

The raven was far from comfortable in the presence of the large being, since he && his sibling were clearly at a disadvantage. Besides, the creature didn't seem too happy to have them where they were.
"If you want us to, then we will leave, Orarion." Hugin spoke; against his preference of staying && standing his ground, he knew his determination would only end up getting him && more importantly Munin, killed.

Of the other world. Indeed, he && Munin were not dwellers in the same realm as the creature in the water. While they had passed through the water, it wasn't pleasant for Hugin && he didn't think Munin loved it either. No, they were born for the air, far away from the murky depths the beast lived in.

"The wise speak only of what they know."

Munin
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.
The Orarian, it said. Guardian of this world. It's voice was muffled and murky but Munin assumed it had meant the murky water that it resided in, and not the whole room itself. For all the raven was concerned, it could keep the cold water for itself.

The great beast said he and his other half were part of 'the other world,' but it somehow clicked in Munin's head that it did not mean the land they stood on, but the open space above their heads. Even if the Orarian didn't know they meant it, the raven knew that with their light build and feathers they were made for soaring through the air.

However, he wasn't very sure if he could fly this young, never mind the fact his ebony feathers were damp.

He gave a brief glance towards Hugin. "We will try," he said. "We have already been attempting to leave, Orarian." There was no way Munin was going to go back into the water - not with the beast laying in wait there to accuse them of trespassing in their world once more and end up with getting Hugin potentionally injured.

A wheezing little whistle of a sigh left Munin's beak as he looked between his other half and the shadowy figure of the orarian, thoughfully. He stepped away from Hugin for a moment, inky-black wings sprawling forth and began batting at the ground. Munin was lifted a few feet into the air before landing roughly once more, grunting.

"Perhaps," he murmured, more to himself before turning to the other raven. "Perhaps we can fly?" The suggestion was an obvious one - but Munin was unsure if they could actually keep themselves above the air long enough to get to where they had to go.

Which, by the looks of it, seemed to be the open maw of a dark tunnel. The other world, as the beast in the water had rather eloquently put it. Munin had to admit that there was something indeed off-putting about the thing there that mused his prior thoughts of long spindly things of teeth and claws.

The raven ruffled his feathers quietly in a weak attempt to ignore the recurring thoughts, instead eyeing his brother with sharp eyes. "Try to fly, Hugin, but don't go too far," he said. "Not yet."

"The wise speak only of what they know."
