Give Life + Stone Revivals Change

March 12, 2018— (Updated March 14, 2018)
Hey everyone!

We implemented a change today with how Give Life will affect Player Stones from the Lost Stones List to further discourage the amount of characters we see are killed off (marked 'Deceased') rather than stay/marked 'Inactive.' This change also affects implied lost stones (stones kept off of the list but later chosen to be revived by the player).

A big part about Origin Cave's lore is that the Gembounds are practically immortal—look at the ancients that have been around for thousands and thousands of years! Don't you want your characters to end up like that at some point!? (Hahah, no, we don't expect you to be around in a thousand years, whether you cryogenically froze yourself or something; but it's the idea that your characters could possibly exist for so long and be so cool! Who knows what could happen...!)

So anyway, the change is this: Give Life now only has one chance to revive a Player Stone. If the first roll attempt of Give Life on a Player Stone fails, the stone will shatter and be destroyed, along with the magic inside of it. Please think carefully now before killing your characters and adding their stones to the Lost Stone list! (To clarify, you can still have your character marked Deceased, but if you want to revive their stone at any point and it is not on the list, their stone also has a chance to fail its revival roll!)

March 14, 2018 Update

+1 ATTEMPT PER MAGIC LEVEL. Per your suggestions, and we agree this is a good update: for each level path upgrade a character has when it dies, it will gain one additional attempt at being revived, up to a maximum of three revival attempts. A Fledgling will only have 1 attempt, but a Pupil/Brawler/Strategist will have 2 attempts, and a Master/Champion/Genius will have 3 attempts. The reason for this being that the magic in their stones are greater and less likely to shatter in one go.

GIVE LIFE IS 1 ATTEMPT PER SPELL. To clarify, Give Life is only 1 attempt per spell usage, so you will need 3 spells if you end up needing to try all 3 attempts on a Master-magic level stone.

Guidebook. These updates have been added in the Guidebook.

Also, the breeding cooldown of 4 cycles now applies normally to singular stones. Your character can still revive up to 3 stones in one thread, and must still be a minimum of 4 cycles to attempt any revives. The terms of failure listed under 'Conception' in the Guidebook also applies to Lost Stones.

You can also find these changes in the Guidebook under Game Mechanics at the bottom of Reproduction. I have added a new section on Lost Stones, as there was not one before, we just kept this information in the OOC thread only; but hopefully this helps you find the information in either place.

TL;DR—

- Give Life only has one chance to revive a Player Stone from the lost stone list. If it fails on the first roll, the stone shatters and is destroyed forever. (+1 ATTEMPT PER MAGIC LEVEL UP TO +3 ATTEMPTS)

- Give Life will not destroy Quest Stones.

- A character marked Deceased and whose stone is not on the Lost Stone list is also affected by this change; if later the player decides to revive their dead character, the roll on this stone also has a chance to fail.

- The breeding cooldown now normally applies to all conceptions.

Clarification: Give Life is one attempt per spell.

Clarification: Characters cannot be revived from broken or shattered stones.

*(If your stone was already on the list before this change, it is not affected by the Give Life change; if your hybrid was already approved before this change, its revive chance is not affected by this change—this includes Kera's stones/list of hybrids. Quest Stones are not affected by this change.)
