Report here after/from [QUEST] Finding a Feisty Friend for the Fae

She watched them go, wishing them the grandest of farewells and the best of luck—because they would probably need it, and also because she wanted them to seriously hurry it up. She grabbed idly at the rest of her materials collection and continued to make the arrows, wondering how to best brainwash Felina into thinking that she—Nemean!!—was the greatest being alive. She beamed widely down toward the kitten as she worked, kicking her legs and nodding her head as if to a tune, humming something horrendously mismatched.

Felina watched the other Gembounds leave. Her and Nemean were the only ones left. Felina overheard the conversation between the winged female cat-like being and the other Gembounds.

Not knowing what was in store for her, she spoke to Nemean respectfully: "My lady, sometimes I feel this certain...something under my paws when I walk on some types of soil. I don't feel it when I step in a shallow pool of water when I want to eat fish. Why does that happen, Lady Nemean?"

My lady. Nemean's eyes literally sparkled as they popped open wide, rolling over toward Felina. Her smile grew so wide that the bottoms of her eyes started to squish, fat cheeks rising high. My lady, the kitten had called her. Nemean never expected to have a favorite of these filthy creatures, but there it was. Felina.

"Oh, honey," she said after a moment of basking in her own awe, waving a tiny hand as if it were nothing. "That's your magic." Nemean glanced the bobcat kitten over for a moment and shrugged her shoulders. "Somewhere on or in your body you have a gemstone, and that's the source. Yours sounds like it must be earth magic," she said, idly going back to working on making the arrows, her eyes dropping back down to her hands.

"You're a youngin' yet, but it'll develop more as you grow. That's what you guys are fo—" Her eyes snapped back to Felina and she forced a fake laugh. "Well, you'll figure it out."

A period of time passed as Xireidi and company were away from the others, off on their mission to find Batcat. The two that were left behind surely would be left unaware of the kinds of trials they had to face in doing so.

When the team finally made it back to the spire it didn't look like it had gone well at all. Where there had been three canines before now there was only one, bleeding from fresh wounds and breathing hard as though he'd been running all the way from Orion. In his jaws was a smaller creature that certainly fit the description of a bat cat.

The wolf slowed his run as he approached and set the unconscious creature before the fae of light. "There were some complications," he spoke between heavy breaths, "but we managed to capture a batcat for you."

Kyorai had separated from the group early on, no doubt looking for possible leads, and Gabriel had likely stayed behind to investigate the energy that reveled itself during the confrontation. While Xireidi might have been curious about it as well he had a job to do and if he hadn't run when he did his route of escape might have been cut off.

This was worth it though; the debt of gratitude had been repaid.

[TW] Grey italics denotes gore. Feel free to skip these lines.

Her arrow crafting was going pretty well, she thought; of course, Nemean couldn't be bad at things. Right? Of course not. She was admiring one of the arrows, holding it up to one of the light bulbs, when the cur returned with its prize. She grimaced at the creature it brought with it and let her arm fall lightly, tilting her head toward Xireidi with disdain. A batcat. Her wings began to flutter and buzz as she pushed herself from her perch and started to make her way down toward him, but the clone came to as the sound of her buzzing.

Before she could scold Xireidi for his mistake, the batcat copy whipped upward, clamping the sprite within its jaws and smacking its teeth several times in quick succession, taking flight as it did so; but it didn't get far. With an explosion of great, bright light and visceral matter, Nemean freed herself from the creature, sending its matter spattering around them.

"NO!" she hollered, shaking herself free of guts. "NOT THOSE KIND. FIND ME THE REAL BATCAT!!" She zipped back up to her supplies, grabbing a topaz and shoved it into the generator wheel, disrupting the power supply. It clunked somewhere down beneath the surface of the water.

The lights blinked and flickered, and then went out.

"You'll have better luck like this!" she hissed, her yellow eyes gleaming in the sudden darkness. "The real one prefers this pitch blackness to anything else! Try again!" Her voice was sour with irritation. Her eyes narrowed with a clear message that said: leave.

The wolf jumped back as his unconscious quarry suddenly sprang to life and attacked. He'd wondered why the fae had wanted the company of such a vicious beast, had it been a path of self-destruction? She hadn't seemed like the type that would take that route though.

Indeed, it seemed that the faerie was not so inclined, nor was she the type to allow such a fate befall her easily. What had once been a perfect picture of light and life now had transformed into a screaming terror of will and vindication. Why... she had been the one to bring light back to them? Why was she so quick to destroy them again?

As Xireidi stood there tail down and gaze affixed on the fae of light and darkness it was becoming clear to him what exactly he was dealing with. This was no gesture of kindness and cooperation. This was a hostage situation. She'd been using them just to get what she wanted, whatever that was.

Still, as long as she was guarding the generator there was no way they could even begin to see about repairing it again. For now he had to play nice.

"I'll be on my way then." he spoke quickly before making his way in a random direction. Now to decide- find this 'real' batcat or find a way to overthrow the faerie. Either way he would need time to prepare and allies to execute a plan.

- Exit Xireidi -

The scent of metal, and something sweet. The buzzing. 'Do not follow,' the Aquarian warned--yet it is my purpose to watch. To find her, and to watch.

The black dog padded quietly forward, and then sat some distance away. The thing-that-buzzed--the Nemean--it was ahead. The Betrayer. Speaking to another being--and flashing with lights. Even cautious, even from a distance, he was wary of drawing too close. He had lived here peaceful and alone for a long time, waiting and watching for precisely this creature. How long had it been? Years? Months? ...Several days, at least, he decided. He tilted his pendulously-wrinkled head, and he observed.

Her voice, sickeningly sweet as her odor; the saccharine lies that dripped from her mouth. He listened, and felt nothing; he watched, as was his task. He was the void, and she was the light-creature. Yes? Half-concealed behind a boulder, he considered.

The bat-thing came awake. Snatched her up. Black tensed--was this her end? But her power--no; she showed her power, and the creature fell dead, in pieces. And she showed her intentions, too, he reflected--it's what you guys are for. Was that what she was going to say?

Does she know our purpose..? Does she know what is a, 'building,' and who made it? Does she know why there are lights, or darkness?

But he could not ask--Aquarian had warned him not to go near this one. Black merely waited, and watched, in the distance.

And then--all went black.

He narrowed his eyes, the lids dropping to hide them, and focused--the darkness was his, if the light was hers. He would watch, if there was even a faint glint of light to watch by. He would not approach, no; he would not aid her. But he would watch.

Fira returned to Polaris with Cecei on her back, heading straight towards the Generator. It was then that she smelled the tracks of someone who had recently left (Xireidi). She didn’t notice the dog who seemed to be watching someone up on the Generator. He was hiding in the background to well for her to really notice, since she wasn’t searching for him. As she drew closer to the giant thing that gave light to the caves, she noticed some kind of weird cat-fairy thing nearby. And an actual cat sitting on the ground nearby, as well. “Uhh, hey!” she called up to the creature known as Nemean (though she didn’t know that). “What, uh, what’s goin’ on? Do either of you here know why the lights aren’t working?”

Cecei was still on Fira's shoulder resting peacefully. She could see quite well in the dark unlike some animals and was constantly looking around. Unlike Fira, Cecei just managed to catch a glimpse of Black. Not enough to clearly see who was there or what the species even was, but she was sure she saw someone hiding in the darkness. "Is someone there?" She stared a little longer until Fira spoke. That was when Cecei turned her attention to.......a cat fairy? Whatever that was. She looked down to Fira before looking around the room slowly before finally back to the fairy thing. "I have a bad feeling about this person. Fira, there was some sort of fight here, be careful. Cecei looked at the creature carefully, studying her before looking at the blood and guts that were on some of the walls and floor. Something just told her that she should be cautious, and normally instincts no matter whose instincts they were.

Black had remained motionless for some time, watching.

He had no desire to be seen--Aquarian's warnings had been stern. But when the stranger's voice called out, asking if anyone was there, he quickly reacted.

Gently, quietly, he stood, and quietly he padded backward, deeper into the thick shadows--and he called upon his magic, on the darkness around him, trying to shroud himself with it like a cloak.

The darkness did not answer, but no matter, he thought; there were plenty of dark shadows where he could hide, and watch, unseen--though he thought he had been well-hidden enough.

He simply retreated, as silently as possible, well out of sight behind a boulder--and there he stayed for a time before daring to slip his gaze around the other side, and take up observation again.

He remained silent.
