Origin's Fourth Olympics

Due to unfortunate events in the world, we missed out on the usual Olympics time. No need to worry - here comes the 2020 Edition! Credit to previous GM Briar for the original development of this event. This year... things are a little different. We're sponsored by the fresh new Master Vargas, for one, but more on that later... hee hee...

The Origin Olympics are an annual character-driven series of events oriented around the three types of rolls. There is a
Magicka Show, Wrestling Tournament, and Obstacle Course - for Magic, Physical Combat, and Other, respectively. Come and show off what you've got; each event is based off of a mixture of RNG and in-character creativity, so
everyone has a chance regardless of progression or how many spells, techniques, or tactics they have.
Events
Unlike in past Olympics, each of the Events will be occurring in different caves! This is for extra flavor, and a change of scenery between each one.
The
Magicka Show will be held
near the Spire in Polaris. It is a
three-turn long display of magical prowess and showmanship. While the majority of it is based on RNG (and luck, given all three of your spells might choose to just outright fail.
Oof,) interest and creativity might be taken into account when judging. Simply casting three high intensity spells in a row is impressive, but it won't wow the audience!
— Casting magic on anyone but yourself is grounds for disqualification!
The
Wrestling Tournament will be held
in the Forum of Orion. It is a
double elimination style tournament - meaning, if your character gets knocked out, they still have a chance to win in a losing bracket. Each match will be standard
five-round fights judged via GM tag.
— No magic or intentional injuries/drawing blood are allowed!
— Characters will be initially matched based on size.
— The bonus points from age will be capped to +5 in judging, for fairness's sake!
— It'll be expected to post somewhat quickly! Failing to respond to a fight within three days will result in a default - an automatic loss.
The
Obstacle Course will be run
in the main area of Tunnel M. It is a
RNG-based mad dash from one end of the tunnel to the other. Think of it as one of the Trials, but far less detrimental to your health - each round will present a new obstacle for participants to surpass.
— No magicka or flying is allowed! That's cheating!
— If your character is not physically capable of or fit to complete the course, they may not place and claim magicka for it. Participation for the fun of it - and claiming the reward - is perfectly okay.
Rewards
Your characters may reap placement rewards
once in the entire Olympics. For example, if they enter the Wrestling Tournament and Obstacle Course and win both, they will receive only 400 magicka. However, if they place in one event and do not another, they may claim that placement magicka and the participation reward.
The magicka rewards are as follows...
— First place in each Event will receive ʡ 400. Redeemable once per character.
— Second place in each Event will receive ʡ 300. Redeemable once per character.
— Third place in each Event will receive ʡ 200. Redeemable once per character.
— All placing characters will receive a medal achievement!
— Participation in each Event will net that character ʡ 50, regardless of placement. May be redeemed multiple times on the same character, per Event.
— Successfully helping to set-up, judge, announce, et cetera will net each character ʡ 75. Redeemable once per character.
Magicka and achievements may be claimed at the closing of an event in Update Me!
Roles to Play
Participating means that the character is actively competing in the event.
You may have a maximum of two characters participating per event.
Helping means that your character is setting up obstacles, judging, being a medic on standby, announcing, et cetera.
You can have as many characters helping as you like.
— When registering to judge, feel free to state their preferred Event. It's recommended that those experienced in a particular level path judge in a corresponding event, but it's entirely up to you. If there is judge overflow in a particular event - or the spread is not even enough - they may be moved to an event they did not sign up for. You'll be asked beforehand! Judge sign-ups are closed! Thanks guys!
— In order to claim magicka for helping, the character must perform their task in at least one completed thread.
Spectating means that the character is merely watching the event. You do not have to register for this role, and may post as desired.
This does not yield any extra magicka aside from regular thread claims.
Dates
Registration will be open from
July 5th to
July 18th, 11:59 PM EST. Once the events have started, no late entries will be allowed (except in circumstances such as new or returning members!)
Set-up threads may be made or joined as soon as your character is signed up to participate, but no later than
July 18th, 11:59 PM EST.
— These might entail setting up obstacles for the Course, adding decorations and hazards for the Tournament, or scenery and props for the Show, discussing who'll be judging, et cetera... be creative and have fun!
— Make sure to GM tag your completed set-up threads so that I (navey!) can reward magicka accordingly and keep track of what's been added!
The Olympics will
begin in earnest on
July 19th, at 12:00 AM EST.
